Mississippi Senate Passes Anti-Abortion Legislation

On Tuesday, Mississippi state Senate passed a bill prohibiting abortions 15 weeks past pregnancy.

The bill passed the senate, 35-14, and was previously passed by the House of Representatives. The bill will be held for more debate before being sent back to the House and on to Republican Governor Phil Bryant, who is expected to sign it.

Should the bill be signed into law, it will represent the most restrictive abortion legislation in the US.

Opponents claim the bill is unconstitutional.  The owner of Mississippi’s only abortion clinic plans to sue.
